Started in 2010, this summer will be the “7th Annual Summer Slam Lacrosse League”. The league has continued to grow and thrive with each passing year. In 2012, the league added both girls and high school divisions to the existing youth boys divisions.
The purpose of the “Summer Slam” is to provide local opportunities for players to participate in an engaging lacrosse experience in a fun environment. The league is designed to be "participation-focused" and all abilities levels are welcome. Some of the highlights of this league are the 7v7 format and small field size that serve to create a fast-paced and exciting lacrosse experience. This structure encourages and enhances player development by capitalizing on “player touches” and “lacrosse action”. Furthermore, rosters sizes are limited to maximize playing time and lax opportunities.
One explicit goal of this league is further build the Southern Colorado lacrosse community through intermixed play. New teams will be formed each week, encouraging players to make new friends and compete with fresh faces from other clubs. The Summer Slam serves as an “off-season” compliment to the traditional Spring CYLA League and the Fall Ball League hosted by the Rangers Lacrosse Organization. It is intended to be a less intense lacrosse experience nestled in a friendly laid-back environment. An additional objective of this league is to provide an affordable lacrosse opportunity that serves to counteract the skyrocketing costs of summer lacrosse clubs and camps. The hope for this league is to ultimately help grow the sport of lacrosse in the region while building a positive lacrosse culture and community.
